KACST, ACWA Power to Establish Clean Energy Research Center
King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and ACWA Power signed an agreement today to establish a joint research center named “Center for the Development of Clean Energy Technologies and Water Desalination.”
The President of the City Munir bin M. Eldesouki and the founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACWA Power Mohammad A. Abunayyan attended the event.
The Vice President of the Energy and Industry Sector at the city Saeed Al-Shehri, and the Executive Vice President for Innovation and New Technology at ACWA Power Thomas Altmann signed the agreement.
Center’s Objectives
The center aims to conduct scientific studies and researches as well as achieve technical development in vital areas within the clean energy and water sectors.
These areas cover the development of solar energy technologies, and innovative technologies and materials for desalination membranes. These innovative technologies will reduce costs and cut emissions from desalination processes.
The center will also harness artificial intelligence and advanced digital technologies to conduct researches and achieve objectives.
The joint center aims to enhance ACWA Power’s presence within the National Laboratories Complex to promote cooperation and innovation between the academic community and the business sector. Moreover, it aims to transfer innovative water desalination technology to various industrial sectors.
On this occasion, Al-Shehri stated that the joint center with ACWA Power is part of the City’s efforts to link technical products with the needs of entities in both the public and private sectors.
Moreover, the city works on achieving national aspirations for research, development, and innovation by utilizing the City’s laboratories and scientists.
