Jeddah’s waterfront witnesses the launch of the inaugural round of the E1 World Electric Powerboat Championship on Friday, February 2, 2024.
Championship Overview
Organized by the Ministry of Sports in collaboration with the Saudi Marine Sports and Diving Federation and under the supervision of the International Powerboat Federation, the event marks the first edition in Saudi Arabia. This championship, featuring 16 drivers representing 8 global teams, will take place over two days, until February 3, 2024.
The series consists of 7 rounds in different cities worldwide, starting with this inaugural event.
Remarks from Saudi Sports Minister
On this occasion, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, the Minister of Sports and head of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, expressed his delight in hosting this new global event. He highlighted that the E1 Championship’s inaugural round on Jeddah’s Red Sea shores is a continuation of Saudi Arabia’s hosting of various global sports events.
The nation’s leadership strongly supports these endeavors, positioning the Kingdom as a permanent home for major sports events.

The Minister emphasized the importance of this event in showcasing Saudi Arabia’s capacity to host various global sports. The E1 Championship carries significant messages, adding to its role in bringing together the sport’s stars. He wished all participants success and enjoyment in Jeddah and the Red Sea’s western region.
Statement from President of Saudi Marine Sports, Diving Federation
Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Salman Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Marine Sports and Diving Federation, commented on the support from the nation’s leadership and guidance from the Sports Minister. He expressed excitement about hosting the world’s top athletes in the E1 Championship in Jeddah.
The championship, passing through seven cities globally, will feature a Saudi team through a strategic partnership with “Aoki Racing.”
The goal is to enhance marine environmental conservation and develop marine sports in Saudi Arabia.
Seven Rounds, Participating Teams
The current edition of the championship has seven rounds globally, featuring eight teams. The Saudi “Aoki Racing” team is owned by Steve Aoki, with Saud Ahmed and Mashael Al Obeidan as representatives. Secondly, other teams include “Brady,” owned by Tom Brady, and “Rafa,” by tennis star Rafael Nadal. Additionally, “Drogba” is owned by former Ivorian star Didier Drogba.
Teams like “Sergio Perez,” owned by Sergio Perez, and “Blue Racing,” by Virat Kohli, are also participating. Moreover, the “Brazil” team is owned by Marcelo Chlor, and “Miami” by Marc Anthony.
The race events are over two days. They include qualifying heats, semi-finals, and the final race between the top four teams. All teams will compete in the “RaceBird,” the first fully electric race boat. It features a sleek, futuristic design and innovative foiling technology. This boat can reach speed up to 50 knots (93 km/h).
