IMI, ARO Drilling Sign Deal to Build New Offshore Rig ‘Kingdom 4’

International Maritime Industries (IMI) has signed an agreement with ARO Drilling to construct a new state-of-the-art offshore drilling rig, “Kingdom 4”, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Signed on November 2 on the sidelines of the Saudi Maritime and Logistics Congress in Dammam, the agreement seeks to strengthen the long-term strategic partnership between both companies.

The deal will enable ARO Drilling to broaden its operations in Saudi regional waters, while cementing the Kingdom’s position as a pioneering maritime hub in the region.

By aligning with the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030, the agreement will redefine industry standards in the Kingdom, boost local supply chains, and support the Kingdom’s approach towards diversified economy and sustainable industrial growth.

Interestingly, the “Kingdom 4” rig construction project will help build a robust maritime supply chain and advance the shared vision of IMI and Aro in driving Saudi Arabia’s maritime sector.

IMI’s 12 million-square-meter facility in Ras Al-Khair has the capacity to produce up to six offshore drilling rigs, 25 offshore support vessels, along with 18 large commercial ships annually — including chemical tankers, bulk carriers, product tankers, and Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). Furthermore, the facility will offer maintenance and repair capacity for up to 250 vessels and 15 drilling rigs each year.

By introducing new capabilities and skills to the maritime industry, the project will promote economic diversification and advance the industrial sector and the local community.
