The Healthcare Transformation Program, part of Saudi Vision 2030, revealed its progress and achievements in 2023.
More than 7,233 cases benefited from the “Shifa” platform, a 3% increase from the previous year. Over 300,000 successful internal and external referrals were made through the Saudi Center for Appointments and Medical Referrals.
Preventive Healthcare Measures
The Healthcare Transformation Program reported over 5 million people screened for obesity, including over 1 million early detections. Additionally, over 1 million were screened for diabetes, with about 11,000 early detections. About 160,000 women underwent early breast cancer screenings, resulting in 654 early detections. These efforts also emphasize early detection and prevention.
Core Initiatives of the Healthcare Transformation
Since the start of Saudi Vision 2030, the program has focused on facilitating access to healthcare, improving service quality and efficiency, and enhancing prevention against health risks, including road safety. These initiatives also aim to fulfill ambitious aspirations and national duties towards a prosperous and healthy life.
2023 Developments and Approvals
In 2023, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the National Institute for Health Research. The first transformation phase was completed with the launch of all health clusters, responsible for population health. The “Nafees” platform and other initiatives were also inaugurated.
Program Indicators and Targets
Significant progress was made in various indicators in 2023. The average life expectancy in the Kingdom increased to 77.6 years, up from 74 years in 2016. This rise is attributed to efforts like promoting health in all policies, walking culture, reducing salt in food, calorie disclosure, and enhancing healthcare services and prevention.
Road Safety, International Recognition
Since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, road accident fatalities have halved. Moreover, the Kingdom has received local and international acclaim in various health areas, reflecting its ongoing leadership and commitment to human health and service quality.
Alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 Pillars
Consequently, these efforts align with the “Vibrant Society” pillar of the three pillars of Saudi Vision 2030 (Vibrant Society, Thriving Economy, Ambitious Nation). The Healthcare Transformation Program aims to provide a sustainable healthy lifestyle and improve health and social care systems.
