Governor of SAMA Meets President of European Central Bank

The Governor of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) Ayman Alsayari, welcomed today at the Central Bank’s headquarters in Riyadh, the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, reported Saudi Press Agency.

During the meeting, they reviewed the latest central-banks-related developments, in addition to global economic conditions, and financial and banking issues of mutual interest.

Alsayari and Lagarde participated in a high-level dialogue session titled “Interconnections in the Financial Sector and Rising Capital Flows”.

Topics of Dialogue Session

The dialogue session focused on discussing three main axes, namely the points of weakness and macro-financial risks arising from increased interconnectivity between major financial sectors and rising capital flows.

They also discussed regulatory and supervisory efforts to address risks resulting from this increased interconnectedness.

The discussion also focused on achieving a balance between financial systems’ openness and mitigating associated risks.

Workshop on Women in Central Banks

Furthermore, the Governor of SAMA inaugurated a workshop on “Women’s Participation and Empowerment in Central Banks,” in which Lagarde gave a speech.

The workshop covered several topics, including women’s empowerment in central banks and the financial sector and the enhancement of the financial institutions’ role in supporting central banks’ efforts.

Moreover, the participants discussed development of leadership programs that contribute to women’s empowerment. The workshop also reviewed measures that central banks can take to ensure fairness and transparency towards women in the workplace.
