GCC FMs: We Affirm Syria’s Sovereignty, Independence, Reject Foreign Interference

In light of the political developments in Syria and Lebanon, as well as the recent updates in the region, the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held an extraordinary meeting in Kuwait to address numerous current issues.
In the final statement of the meeting, the GCC foreign ministers emphasized “the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and independence, and rejecting foreign interference in its internal affairs.”

The statement read: “We affirm our support for UN Security Council Resolution 2254, as well as support for the stability of Syria and the unity of its territory,” in addition to “emphasizing support for achieving a comprehensive settlement of the Syrian crisis and the return of refugees.”
Gaza Strip
The ministers also addressed the ongoing war in Gaza, expressing their hope for the “success of Qatari and Egyptian mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”
The Gulf Cooperation Council reaffirmed its “steadfast and unwavering solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people.”
On his part, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya stated that “Israeli aggressions against Lebanon, Syria, and Palestinian territories must stop,” reaffirming Kuwait’s full support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and rejection of external interference.
GCC
Additionally, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, emphasized that “the GCC states support all efforts aimed at achieving unity, sovereignty, and security for Syria, standing with the Syrian people.” He underscored the importance of international solidarity to support efforts toward a comprehensive resolution of the Syrian crisis.

Al-Budaiwi said: “We commend the preservation of Syrian state institutions and call for fostering a language of dialogue. We also praise the positive steps taken by the interim Syrian government.”
The GCC Secretary-General also called for “Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Syrian territories,” describing “Israeli attacks on Syria as blatant violations of international laws.”
