GAT Conducts Inspections on Maritime Transport Activities
According to the General Authority for Transport (GAT), its supervisory teams carried out 34,345 supervisory inspections of Maritime Transport Activities in 2023. With a 99% compliance record, the authorities found (482) breaches during the inspections which covered every area in the Kingdom.
The violations detected by GAT include not writing the name of the unit and registration number on both sides of the front center of the unit in the manner specified for the marine unit owner.
In addition, there is no automatic ship identification device (AIS), registered distress signal (EPIRB) and marine radio communication device (Marine VHF) equipped with the marine unit.
Developing Saudi Transportation Sector
GAT aims to ensure the provision of transportation services in accordance with safety and security requirements. It also strives to achieve the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services.
In addition, GAT continues its tasks of supervising, following up, and carrying out oversight and monitoring work throughout the year on various land, sea, and rail transportation activities. The GAT is also keen to provide all ways and means to develop the transportation sector.
KSA Strategy Implementation
KSA strategy focuses on developing infrastructure, launching multiple logistics platforms, and implementing advanced operating systems. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of strengthening effective partnerships between the public and the private sector.
Additionally, the strategy aims to achieve efficient connectivity and develop public transportation services in Saudi cities.
Consequently, the strategy has also set in place key objectives related to sustainability, environmental preservation, and reducing fuel consumption by 25 percent.
Thus, it provides smart solutions to facilitate the movement of passengers between cities and the transport of goods using the latest technologies applied globally.
Global achievements
During 2023, Saudi Arabia jumped 17 places globally in the logistics index issued by the World Bank. The Kingdom advanced to 38th place in the International Logistics Efficiency Index.
