Farhan Criticizes International Inability to Ceasefire in Gaza
Today, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has issued a stern warning about the grave consequences of any Israeli attack on Rafah, in southern Gaza. His keynote speech was at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s ministerial meeting. He confirmed Saudi Arabia’s strong opposition to the displacement of Palestinians from the region. Farhan expressed dismay over the global failure to stop Gaza’s violence and warned against diminishing UNRWA‘s key role in Palestine.
The meeting saw participation from Deputy Foreign Minister Walid Al-Khuraiji and Assistant Director General of the Minister’s Office Walid Al-Ismail. The Foreign Minister Advisor Mohammed Al-Yahya accompanied the Saudi Foreign Minister.
Farhan Talks about KSA’s Continued Support for UNRWA
Farhan pledged ongoing support from KSA for UNRWA and called upon all benefactors to fulfill their responsibilities towards Palestinian refugees in Gaza. Moreover, he urged nations to resume support for UNRWA, highlighting its role in addressing Palestinians’ needs and easing the humanitarian crisis.
Advocacy for State of Palestine
Farhan observed a positive change in some countries’ readiness to recognize Palestine and support a ceasefire regarding Gaza. Furthermore, he stressed the urgency of pressuring Israel to halt its military actions and agree to a two-state resolution.
Farhan Calls for Peace& Security
In his concluding remarks, the minister reiterated the importance of ending Palestinian suffering. He also stressed fostering a future where Palestinians can secure their rights to live safely and determine their future. Besides, He emphasized the necessity for a firm and permanent method to establish a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This aligns with the Arab Peace Initiative and international resolutions.
Bilateral Discussions on Sidelines
On the conference sidelines, Farhan engaged in discussions with counterparts from Iran, Bangladesh, Algeria, and Tajikistan. He explored ways to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation across various domains. Moreover, he deliberated on Gaza’s situation, focusing on collaborative efforts to halt hostilities and deliver humanitarian assistance to affected areas.
