Egypt’s Al-Sisi Reiterates Support for Two-State Solution

The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, has reiterated support for the two-state solution as the only viable path for establishing peace in the Middle East.

In his speech during the Sharm Al-Sheikh Peace Summit, Al-Sisi said that the Gaza peace deal heralds a new era of peace in the Middle East, voicing support for a two-state solution, based on the recognition of Palestinian statehood.

“And I reiterate our support and aspiration to the execution of this plan, creating the essential political horizon for the implementation of the two-state solution,” he said.

He also highlighted that Palestinians have the rights to self-determination. “They too, have the right to self-determination and to aspire for a future where war doesn’t loom over, own the right to enjoy freedom and to live in their independent state, a state that live side by side with Israel in peace, security and mutual recognition,” Al-Sisi said.

Moreover, the Egyptian President awarded Trump the “Collar of the Nile, the highest state honor among the Egyptian decorations,” in recognition of his distinguished contributions to supporting peace efforts, defusing conflicts, and most recently, his pivotal role in ending the war in Gaza.

Earlier, Al-Sisi and Trump, alongside the leaders of Qatar and Türkiye, signed the Gaza peace agreement document. Trump said that the document will “spell out a lot of rules and regulations and lots of other things, and it’s very comprehensive.”

The Sharm Al-Sheikh Peace Summit is gathering leaders from 31 countries. It aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and usher in a new phase of regional security and stability.
