The Diriyah Biennale Foundation proudly has announced that Saudi artist Fatma Abdulhadi will present new work at the 14th Taipei Biennial 2025. The production of her installation was partly funded by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia and its based artists on the international stage. Additional support was provided by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum.
‘What Remains: Stay as Long as You Can’
According to a statement from the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, Abdulhadi’s new piece, titled What Remains: Stay as Long as You Can, is an immersive installation that extends beyond the idea of a physical garden. The work evolves from her earlier piece I Wish You in Heaven, which was commissioned by the Foundation for the Islamic Arts Biennale 2025.
Exploring Healing, Memory, Reflection
Through layered silkscreen prints—a core element of her artistic practice—and the scent of basil, Abdulhadi weaves together cultural and ritual symbolism. Additionally, the installation invites viewers into a shared, contemplative space that evokes healing and peace, offering solace after grief.
Reflecting on her work, Abdulhadi said:
“What Remains: Stay as Long as You Can is, to me, a continuous and universal conversation—an invitation to slow down and recycle memory. In Taipei, the work unfolds as a quiet space for reflection, healing, and connection, where time stretches and stories find new shape.”
Diriyah Biennale Foundation
Aya Al-Bakree, CEO of the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, emphasized the organization’s vision:
“Supporting artists is central to our ambition at the Diriyah Biennale Foundation. We are committed to nurturing Saudi talent and enabling them to engage meaningfully with the international art community.”
Titled ‘Whispers on the Horizon’, the 14th edition of the Taipei Biennial is curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath. It will be on view at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum from November 1, 2025, to March 29, 2026.
