The Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art at Jax (SAMoCA@Jax) proudly presents Adaptability, an exhibition that invites visitors on a journey of discovery and reflection, exploring the enduring relationship between humanity and the primal essence of clay.

Curated by Samer Yamani, Adaptability offers a distinctive perspective on the evolution of both humans and materials. The exhibition tells the timeless story of clay—its origins, its transformation through human hands, and its role as an essential tool in shaping civilization. The shared characteristics between humans and clay unfold throughout the exhibition: the ability to transform, to endure fragility and strength, to rebel yet conform, and to continuously evolve. Just as life’s trials shape human resilience, clay too undergoes profound change, adapting and redefining itself over time.
Featuring the works of 11 artists from five Arab nations—Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, and Jordan—Adaptability traces the evolution of ceramic artistry from ancient hand-molding techniques to cutting-edge innovations, including robotic-assisted craftsmanship.
