ACWA, Larsen & Toubro Select NEXTracker for Al Khafji Project
Partnership, Technology Implementation
“ACWA Power” and “Larsen & Toubro” have selected “NEXTracker’s” all-terrain solar tracking systems for the Al Khafji solar energy complex.
Located in central Saudi Arabia, the Al Khafji project is a key part of the country’s National Renewable Energy Program.
Partnership, Technology Implementation
NEXTracker, a NASDAQ-listed company (Symbol: NXT), is a global leader in smart solar tracker and software solutions. They have been chosen by both ACWA Power and Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) to provide their NX Horizon-XTR™ system for the Al Khafji solar plant. Furthermore, this solar plant is integral for achieving the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
Al Khafji: Pivotal Solar Energy Project
Al Khafji is one of three major independent photovoltaic power production (IPP) projects led by the “Water and Electricity Holding Company” (Badeel) and “ACWA Power”. It also will supply clean energy to the Saudi Power Procurement Company, underlining its significance in renewable energy projects.
Overcoming Terrain Challenges
The Al Khafji project will feature NEXTracker’s smart solar tracking system, NX Horizon-XTR, overcoming the rugged and hilly terrain of the solar plant site. Additionally, introduced in 2018, this system eliminates the need for expensive land leveling, having proved its efficacy in various global utility projects.
Milestone in Solar Energy
Saudi Arabia’s “Al Khafji” project represents the largest single order for “NX Horizon-XTR” solar tracking systems by “Next Tracker.” Moreover, this project marks a significant achievement in the burgeoning solar energy market in the Middle East, India, and Africa.
Enhancing Local Content and Capability
Next Tracker has expanded its local content program in Saudi Arabia, supporting “ACWA Power” and the “Al Khafji” project. Furthermore, It involves local partners in raw materials and manufacturing of tracking devices, promoting solar tracking device manufacturing.
Previous Partnerships and Achievements
Next Tracker previously partnered with “ACWA Power” and “Larsen & Toubro” at the “Sudair” Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant (906 MW), supplying smart solar tracking devices to enhance power generation.
Executive Perspectives
Dan Shugar, CEO of Next Tracker, expressed pride in collaborating with ACWA Power and Larsen & Toubro on another significant regional project. He highlighted the partnership’s role in achieving a 10 GW capacity milestone in solar tracking devices in the rapidly expanding solar energy.
He also noted the importance of partnerships with technology providers like Next Tracker in supporting Saudi Arabia’s ambitious renewable energy plans.
