Flights Between Iran, Dubai, Doha, Turkey Canceled Amid Rising Tensions
Flydubai cancelled at least 17 Friday flights between Dubai and Iranian cities, including Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad, according to Reuters.
The Dubai Airports website did not clarify the reason for the cancellations. However, Iran experienced a nationwide internet blackout on Thursday that extended into Friday as part of the government’s attempts to contain expanding protests.
Moreover, Turkish media reported that Turkish Airlines cancelled 17 flights, Ajet scrapped six, and budget carrier Pegasus halted services to Iranian cities on Friday.
Hamad International Airport’s website also showed that at least two Friday flights between Doha and Tehran were cancelled.
Protests in Iran erupted last month, sparked by shopkeepers striking over economic concerns.
The demonstrations began as a localized act of defiance but then turned into a nationwide movement as Iranians started to rise bold political demands.
