The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has issued a warning against the use of specific Nestlé infant formula products following a voluntary recall by the company due to potential contamination concerns.
According to the SFDA, the warning applies to the NAN, ALFAMINO, S-26 GOLD, and S-26 ULTIMA infant formula brands after Nestlé reported the possible presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus, which could pose health risks to infants.
The authority explained that the recall is a precautionary measure implemented after evaluating potential risks, noting that exposure to this toxin may lead to symptoms such as nausea, recurrent vomiting, and abdominal pain. The SFDA confirmed that no related illness cases have been reported so far.
The SFDA urged consumers to immediately stop using the affected products and dispose of them, emphasizing that it is working closely with Nestlé to ensure the products are withdrawn from the market. The authority added that it is directly overseeing the recall process.
Details of the affected products and their batch numbers have been published in an accompanying table.
