Riyadh to Host 2nd Int’l Conference on Sand and Dust Storms

Riyadh is set to host the Second International Conference on Sand and Dust Storms in late 2026, bringing together global leaders, international organizations, and researchers from all over the world, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Sand and Dust Storm Regional Center Executive Director Jumaan Al‑Qahtani underscored that the upcoming conference builds upon the success of its inaugural edition, which culminated in the landmark Riyadh Declaration.

Standing as a strategic roadmap, the declaration charts a path for addressing the challenges of sand and dust storms and strengthening regional cooperation to manage transboundary impacts.

It further supports source countries and helps them mitigate the impacts of sand and dust storms, while encouraging scientific research to uncover root causes and advance collaborative regional solutions.

Notably, this conference aligns with the Kingdom’s milestones at the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, where successful partnerships and initiatives were launched to confront desertification, combat drought, and mitigate the far‑reaching effects of climate change.
