Saudi Solar Surge: Over 40% of Households Seek Renewable Shift

A compelling 40.8% of Saudi households now actively seek to utilize solar energy as their main power source, according to GASTAT’s recent national report. Specifically, the General Authority for Statistics compiled these significant findings from comprehensive field surveys and accurate administrative records furnished by the Ministry of Energy. This reliable data collection method ensures robust support for developing future national household energy policies and initiatives.

Kingdom’s Drive for Energy Efficiency

Saudi households demonstrate a strong commitment to conservation and efficiency across the Kingdom, the statistics confirm. Furthermore, 91.5% of residents prioritize reducing their overall electricity consumption, actively implementing energy-saving guidelines with new appliances.

Consequently, over half the respondents, a solid 56.6%, expressed their willingness to replace older appliances with more energy-efficient alternatives immediately. Overall, total residential electricity consumption reached 161,207 gigawatt-hours during the reporting period, officials documented.

Notably, the report confirms that every single person living within the Kingdom now enjoys reliable access to electricity, a major national achievement.

Traditional Fuel Preferences Remain Dominant

Conversely, gas remains the primary energy source for cooking in the Kingdom, favored by 86.4% of the surveyed population. Only 13.4% of households presently utilize electricity for cooking purposes, highlighting a clear domestic preference for gas.

Significantly, 97% of these households rely heavily on gas cylinders for their daily culinary needs, demonstrating this sustained dependency. The vast majority of residents, 93.9%, continue to use iron cylinders, compared with 5.6% of consumers who prefer fiber cylinders.
