Trump to Tour Saudi Arabia, Qatar & UAE in May

President Donald Trump will visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE from 13 to 16 May, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced. This marks his second foreign trip since returning to office, following a planned Italy visit for Pope Francis’ funeral.

Leavitt highlighted bilateral meetings focusing on energy cooperation, defense agreements, and technology investments. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE remain pivotal partners in U.S. efforts to stabilize oil markets and counter regional security threats.

Ceasefire Mediation and Regional Stability

The Gulf nations recently supported U.S.-led ceasefire talks in Ukraine and Gaza. Qatar mediated Hamas-Israel negotiations, while the UAE and Saudi Arabia contributed to humanitarian aid efforts. Trump will discuss expanding these roles to de-escalate conflicts.

This marks Trump’s second international trip since returning to office. Analysts note the tour could unlock new trade deals, including Saudi clean energy projects under Vision 2030.

Upcoming Diplomatic Engagements

Before the Middle East tour, Trump will visit Italy for diplomatic talks. Leavitt emphasized the president’s focus on “action-oriented outcomes” during both trips.

Gulf leaders have welcomed the visit, underscoring shared priorities like cybersecurity and AI innovation. The UAE’s recent COP28 commitments and Qatar’s LNG expansion plans may dominate economic discussions.

Trump’s itinerary reflects the Gulf’s growing influence in global diplomacy. By strengthening these partnerships, the U.S. aims to balance China and Russia’s regional outreach while securing critical energy and trade corridors.
