Sudan’s SAF Alleges Israeli Role in War as Khartoum Rejects US Envoy Claims

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Chief of Joint Staff Yasir Al-Atta has accused Israel of meddling in the conflict in Sudan. Al-Atta’s remarks coincided with a diplomatic rift between Khartoum and Washington over claims by US Envoy Massad Boulos that the Sudanese government rejected an American peace proposal.

Now in its fourth year, the war between the SAF and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has triggered the world’s largest humanitarian and displacement crisis. The RSF’s recent encirclement of North Kordofan’s El-Obeid has raised global alarm of another humanitarian catastrophe mirroring the siege of Darfur’s El-Fasher.

Israeli Involvement

Addressing personnel during an inspection of the Armored Corps, Al-Atta said that Sudan is facing a conspiracy staged by what he called “global Zionist forces,” according to Sudan News Agency (SUNA).

He noted that this conspiracy is managed through hidden elements behind the scenes to destabilize the security and stability of the Sudanese people.

“We are fighting the claw of evil and its mini-state,” Al-Atta said, adding that the Sudanese Armed Forces stand in the face of this conspiracy and will achieve victory with the support of the Sudanese people.

The SAF-aligned government has frequently cited foreign interference in the war. Since the outbreak of the conflict, the Sudanese government and rights groups have repeatedly accused the UAE of supplying the RSF with weapons, mercenaries and political backing – allegations that Abu Dhabi consistently denies. The Sudanese government has also accused Ethiopia of engaging in hostile actions against Sudan.

Defending Kordofan

Al-Atta vowed to achieve victory and recapture all of Sudan, asserting that the Sudanese army has plans and is fully prepared to defeat the RSF and their allied militias and drive them out of Kordofan and Darfur.

The army-aligned Joint Force on Saturday announced it had recaptured the strategic town of Abu Qamra in North Darfur after a fierce battle with RSF forces.

Over the past two weeks, the RSF and their allied militias have launched dozens of drone attacks against El-Obeid, the capital city of North Kordofan state, killing civilians, destroying infrastructure, and cutting off access to basic services and supply routes.

The paramilitary group has also amassed substantial military reinforcement around El-Obeid amid reports of a potential large-scale ground offensive on the strategic city.

These moves have raised regional and international concerns over a repeat of the mass atrocities seen in El-Fasher. The capital city of North Darfur state fell to the RSF in late October 2025 and endured a wave of atrocities that the UN said showed “hallmarks of genocide” against non-Arab communities and amounted to “war crimes and possible crimes against humanity.

Clash over US Peace Proposal

Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos sparked a diplomatic dispute with the Sudanese government during a UN Security Council session on Friday.

Boulos said that Khartoum rejected a new US humanitarian proposal, accusing the Sudanese Sovereignty Council of consistently blocking peace initiatives, according to Sudan Tribune.

He noted that the latest proposal aimed to ensure sustained, unhindered humanitarian access across conflict lines and borders, while setting the stage for a permanent ceasefire and inclusive political dialogue.

In response, Sudan’s UN Envoy Al-Harith Idriss dismissed Boulos’ allegations, saying that the Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the SAF, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, had responded to the proposal before the session.

Idriss emphasized that Al-Burhan forwarded his amendments to the proposed humanitarian truce to Boulos on Friday morning, noting that the revisions included an updated withdrawal timeline and a framework for restoring peace.

Sudanese Government Rebuttal

Sudan’s Foreign Ministry labeled Boulos’ claims as “inaccurate,” stating that they “do not reflect the true positions of the Sudanese government and its institutions, including the Sovereignty Council.”

In an official statement on Saturday, the Foreign Ministry emphasized that the Sudanese government has dealt “positively and responsibly” with all initiatives and proposals aimed at ending the conflict.

The statement cited the signing of the Jeddah Declaration in May 2023 and approving several humanitarian truces under the agreement – all of which the RSF violated. It also highlighted the government’s peace initiative submitted to the UN Security Council in December 2025.

Additionally, the Ministry said that the government has “engaged constructively” with Boulos’ proposal, providing a detailed response within the framework of ongoing consultations with the US government.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry affirmed that any serious efforts to end the war “must address the root causes” of the conflict, most notably halting the external supply of weapons and mercenaries to the RSF, and ending all forms of political and diplomatic support that enable it to continue its military operations and attacks against civilians.

Furthermore, the Ministry urged the international community and all regional and international actors to “deal realistically and objectively” with the situation on the ground.

It said that Sudan is facing a “direct, foreign-sponsored aggression” targeting both the Sudanese State and people through the use of a “terrorist militia.”
