Poland Signals Readiness for Additional US Troops amid Germany Withdrawal Plan
Poland has announced that it is ready to accommodate additional US troops to foster NATO’s eastern flank, following Washington’s plans to scale back its military presence in Germany, according to the Saudi Gazette.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that the Polish–American alliance remains a cornerstone of Poland’s security strategy.
“Poland is ready to receive additional American soldiers in order to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank and provide even better protection for Europe,” he wrote on X.
These remarks followed US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s announcement of multiple plans to withdraw approximately 5,000 American troops from Germany.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump signaled the possibility of further reductions in US forces across Europe.
Currently, Germany hosts nearly 35,000 to 37,000 U.S. military personnel, serving as the largest hub for American forces in Europe.
Poland has repeatedly pushed for a stronger and more permanent US military presence on its territory.
This approach has been increased since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, considering the step as a key deterrent against potential Russian aggression.
Warsaw has increasingly ramped up defense spending while boosting its strategic cooperation with Washington, including expanded rotational US troop deployments, logistics infrastructure, and advanced missile defense systems.
