GCC Sec.-Gen. Highlights Private Sector’s Role in Driving National, Regional Progress

Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi emphasized the critical role of the private sector across GCC member states in achieving national priorities and advancing collective Gulf cooperation. He noted that the 14th Consultative Meeting with leaders of federations and chambers of commerce is designed to strengthen and enable the private sector to contribute effectively to economic integration within the region.
His remarks came during the 14th Consultative Meeting between GCC commerce ministers and heads of business federations and chambers, which was held virtually yesterday.

Albudaiwi explained that this regular meeting acts as a strategic platform for dialogue, bringing together policymakers, decision-makers, and private sector representatives. He described it as a key channel for high-level engagement between governments and businesses, aimed at boosting collaboration, fostering economic growth, and addressing both regional and global economic challenges facing the Gulf’s private sector.
He also pointed to the steady growth in intra-GCC trade as clear evidence of progress in overcoming past challenges. Moreover, trade within the GCC reached approximately $146 billion in 2024, reflecting an annual growth rate of 9.8%—a strong indicator of the expanding scale and resilience of Gulf economic exchange.
