Arab, Islamic Ministers Condemn Israel’s West Bank Death Penalty Law

Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia and several Arab and Islamic countries have strongly denounced Israel’s adoption of a law permitting the death penalty for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Representing Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates, the ministers criticized the Israeli parliament’s move, warning that it reflects an increasingly discriminatory approach toward Palestinians. They expressed concern that such policies deepen systemic inequality and contribute to what they described as an apartheid-like reality, while also denying the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.

The ministers described the legislation as a serious and dangerous escalation, particularly because it is seen as being applied selectively against Palestinian detainees. They cautioned that this step could intensify tensions and further destabilize the region.

They also voiced alarm over the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody, citing credible reports of abuse, including torture, inhumane conditions, deprivation of basic rights, and even starvation. According to the ministers, these practices are part of a broader pattern of violations against Palestinians.

Reaffirming their firm opposition, the ministers condemned what they characterized as racially discriminatory and aggressive policies targeting Palestinians. They urged an immediate halt to actions that could inflame the situation further and called for greater international accountability and cooperation to maintain stability and prevent further escalation.
