Saudi Arabia and Turkey are currently exploring a landmark defense cooperation agreement that features joint investment in the fifth-generation KAAN fighter jet. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that both nations have initiated formal discussions to localize production and enhance regional military capabilities.
President Erdogan stated that Saudi Arabia closely monitors Turkey’s rapid progress within the defense industry sector. He noted that Ankara is now preparing to conclude significant agreements with Riyadh to solidify this strategic partnership. During his return from a regional tour, the President highlighted the positive reception the KAAN aircraft received from Saudi leadership.

A Symbol of Engineering Excellence
The KAAN aircraft represents more than a combat jet because it symbolizes Turkey’s sophisticated engineering and independent defense posture. Turkey successfully completed the first flight of this domestically produced fifth-generation fighter in February 2024. As a result, Turkey joined an elite group of only five countries capable of manufacturing such high-tech stealth technology.
The fighter jet performs air-to-air combat missions and precision strikes from internal bays while maintaining supersonic speeds. This technological leap provides a unique opportunity for the Kingdom to integrate cutting-edge aviation into its own growing industrial base.
Strengthening Economic Ties
President Erdogan described his recent talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as “highly productive” and deeply significant. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia holds a special place for Turkey across several sectors including healthcare, construction, and investment.
The economic data supports this growing closeness as bilateral trade reached $8 billion in 2025. Furthermore, Turkish contractors have already completed over 400 projects in the Kingdom with a total value of $30 billion. Both leaders agree that regional stability remains a top priority for their respective governments.
Saudi Arabia and Turkey share aligned views on regional issues and both nations actively oppose any new local wars. They favor peace and calm because stability benefits all parties involved in the Middle East’s economic and social development. This defense partnership serves as a cornerstone for a more secure and prosperous future for the entire region.
