The International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) has announced that Jeddah and Taif have been awarded the prestigious World Region of Gastronomy 2027 title, after fulfilling the institute’s criteria for promoting sustainable regional development through gastronomy across economic, cultural, social, and environmental dimensions.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in showcasing Saudi Arabia’s culinary heritage on the global stage. It builds on the success of the Aseer Region, which received the same designation in 2024, and underscores the continued engagement of Saudi regions in international platforms. Moreover, the recognition highlights gastronomy as a vital tool for cultural preservation and sustainable development.

The award reflects the collaborative efforts led by the Culinary Arts Commission, in partnership with key stakeholders including King Abdulaziz University, Dar Al-Hekma University, the Jeddah Governorate Development Authority, and several local companies. Together, these partners have advanced education, innovation, and skills development, strengthened cultural identity, and integrated gastronomy with tourism and community engagement.

The designation followed an evaluation visit by an IGCAT jury of experts to Jeddah and Taif, during which they met with local stakeholders to assess the cities’ readiness to hold the title. Finally, the visit highlighted the regions’ commitment to celebrating cultural and culinary diversity, protecting the environment, preserving heritage, and empowering youth to drive innovation in support of sustainable tourism.
