23rd Scientific Forum of GCC History, Archaeology Society Kicks Off in Riyadh

The 23rd Scientific Forum of the History and Archaeology Society of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries was launched yesterday in the capital, Riyadh.

The event is organized by the Heritage Commission in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Foundation, and features the participation of 300 researchers in the fields of history and archaeology. The forum will continue for two days.

Interdisciplinary Sciences in Human Development

The CEO of the King Abdulaziz Foundation, Mr. Turki bin Mohammed Al-Shuwaier, emphasized in his opening speech at the forum that the forum serves as a living example of what scholars and educational planners advocate regarding the importance of interdisciplinary sciences in human development and empowering individuals to serve their communities in many ways.

He said: “There is nothing better or more appropriate than for historians and archaeologists to come together, as history and archaeology are two sides of the same coin, each complementing the other. The former chronicles humanity and its eras. Additionally, the latter unveils its cultural and heritage legacy, revealing its lifestyle, livelihood, dwellings, and the tools it used.”

On his part, the President of the Association, Yousef Ibrahim Al-Abdullah, and its Secretary-General, Professor Dr. Ahmed bin Omar Al-Zailai, affirmed that the Association has contributed to supporting scientific efforts in the fields of history. It has positively impacted its outcomes. Furthermore, this is will enrich the forum with valuable research and scientific papers it contains.

World Heritage List

In his speech, Dr. Jasir Al-Harbash, President of the Heritage Commission, praised the association’s efforts in supporting those interested in history and antiquities in the Gulf countries. He also highlighted the Heritage Commission’s successes in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, this includes the registration of sites like Al-Faw and the Al-Turaif district in Diriyah on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Finally, the forum promotes scientific thought in its field, empowers professionals to advance research. It highlights contributions by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens in archaeology, heritage, and history. The forum seeks to enrich research on the GCC’s history, antiquities, and heritage. It also encourages cultural exchange of scientific output in these fields.
