13 people killed & 27 injured in Yemen due to thunderstorm
According to local sources and residents in Yemen, at least 13 people were killed and others injured, Sunday, as a result of heavy rains that caused devastating floods, and thunderstorms.
This is due to a low air pressure that dominated the Arabian Sea in the governorates of Amran and Hajjah in the country’s north.
According to a local official in the agricultural province of Amran in the country’s north, a thunderbolt struck a funeral for women in the Hashif area of the Al-Asha district, killing six women and injuring about 19 others.
According to official sources in Yemen’s mountainous Hajjah Governorate, 7 people were killed and 8 others were injured yesterday evening when thunderbolts struck several locations.
Local sources and residents in Ibb governorate in central Yemen confirmed that heavy rains destroyed 5 houses in the Haddah Ghalis area.
Since the middle of last month, many areas of Yemen have been subjected to torrential rains and thunderstorms, which have claimed dozens of lives and displaced a large number of residents.
The rains also severely damaged service infrastructure, health facilities, citizens’ properties, agricultural lands, and valleys. It also flooded many displaced person camps in the Ma’rib Governorate’s northeastern region.
The UN announced last week that 77 people had died as a result of heavy rains and flooding in Yemen.
According to the UN, heavy rains, torrential rains, and devastating floods have affected over 35,000 Yemeni families in 85 districts across 16 of the country’s 22 governorates since mid-July.
