US Ambassador in Yemen calls to implement Riyadh Agreement

The Chargé d’Affairs of the US Embassy in Yemen, Catherine Westley, confirmed her readiness to visit Aden, saying, “We are ready to visit Aden after the return of the government and the completion of the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.”

During her meeting with Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, she stressed that relations between America and Yemen are characterized by cooperation and integration, reiterating her country’s support for Yemen, its leadership, and constitutional legitimacy.

She also drew attention to the efforts of the United States in this regard, by supporting Yemen financially and humanitarianly, and urging the international community to do so, stressing the continuation of those efforts.

She referred to her meetings with the Ministers of Interior, Public Health and Population, to discuss possible support in these two sectors in the aspects of combating smuggling, confronting the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19), supporting motherhood, childhood, and supporting the return of the government to Aden.

The Yemeni president praised the efforts and positions of the United States in support of Yemen in various situations and circumstances, and its interest in its security and stability through its remarkable support in this direction for its unity, constitutional legitimacy, and republican system.

He referred to the areas of cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries in various files, most notably combating terrorism and smuggling, securing navigation, and Iranian interference in Yemen and the region.

He also valued the US efforts to bring peace to Yemen through its efforts in this context in cooperation with the international community.

He pointed to the legitimate government’s commitment to all peace efforts in its various stages, the latest of which is the Stockholm Agreement, in return for the Houthi militia’s failure to abide by their pledges to lift the siege on Taiz and release prisoners and detainees as the first steps for peace.

He also stressed the importance of the American role in urging the international community, organizations, and donors to provide aid to the Yemeni people in light of the difficult circumstances the country is going through as a result of the suffering of the coup and its consequences, as well as its efforts to support the government’s efforts and to complete the implementation of the provisions of the Riyadh Agreement by urging the implementation of the security aspect.
