UK Secretary of State for Science Visits KFSHRC Heart Centre of Excellence
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh recently hosted the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology, Peter Kyle, along with his delegation.
During his visit, Kyle toured the Heart Centre of Excellence where he observed cutting-edge medical innovations and advanced cardiac care technologies, underscoring KFSHRC’s leadership in specialized healthcare.
The British official met with Dr. Hani Al-Sergani, Executive Director of the Heart Centre of Excellence, and his deputy, Professor Feras Khaliel. He also explored the hospital’s state-of-the-art cardiac facilities, engaged with the medical team behind the world’s first fully robotic heart transplant, and reviewed the latest advancements in minimally invasive organ transplantation—techniques that help minimize surgical risks and expedite patient recovery.
Kyle’s visit comes in light of global recognition for KFSHRC’s groundbreaking achievements, particularly the historic robotic heart transplant led by Professor Khaliel. This milestone further reinforces Saudi Arabia’s leadership in healthcare and highlights KFSHRC’s pioneering role in advancing medical practices that improve patient outcomes.
KFSHRC continues to earn international acclaim, ranking first in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and 15th globally among the world’s top 250 academic medical centers for the second consecutive year. It was also named the most valuable healthcare brand in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, according to the 2025 Brand Finance rankings, and featured in Newsweek’s list of the world’s best smart hospitals for 2025.
