UK Science Secretary Visits KFSHRC Heart Excellence Center in Riyadh
The UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Peter Kyle, on Sunday visited the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC) in Riyadh, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The UK Science Secretary’s visit included a tour at the Heart Center of Excellence at KFSHRC, where he observed medical cutting-edge technologies and advanced innovations in cardiac care, which positioned KFSHRC as a global pioneer in specialized healthcare.
During his visit, Kyle met with the Executive Director of the Heart Center of Excellence, Dr. Hani Al-Sergani and his deputy, Professor Feras Khaliel. The British official toured the Center’s facilities and met with the medical team that performed the world’s first fully robotic heart transplant.
Moreover, Kyle explored the latest advancements in minimally invasive organ transplantation, which reduce surgical complications and accelerate patient recovery.
The UK Secretary of Science and Innovation’s visit follows the global recognition which the KFSHRC Heart Center of Excellence gained after performing the groundbreaking fully robotic heart transplant, led by Professor Khaliel. This medical breakthrough further consolidates Saudi Arabia’s status as a global leader in healthcare, highlighting KFSHRC capability of medical innovation.
In the light of this, KFSHRC secured the first place in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the 15th globally on the world’s top 250 academic medical centers list 2025 for the second year in a row. Furthermore, Brand Finance 2025 named the hospital the most valuable healthcare brand in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. KFSHRC also featured on the Newsweek World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2025 list.
