U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright visited King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where he was welcomed by Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Minister of Energy and Chairman of the KAUST Board of Trustees, along with University President Dr. Tony Chan and other senior officials.
During the visit, the delegation received an in-depth overview of KAUST’s cutting-edge research and innovation initiatives. The briefing highlighted the university’s pivotal role in driving a knowledge-based economy, addressing global challenges through science and technology, and advancing key projects across multiple sectors. The briefing included a strong emphasis on KAUST’s contributions to Saudi Arabia’s energy transition and alignment with national and international sustainability goals.
As part of its “Accelerating Impact” strategy, KAUST is committed to cementing its status as a global hub for innovation. This includes advancing frontier scientific research, nurturing entrepreneurship, and building strategic partnerships — such as its ongoing collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy — to promote sustainable progress in energy and science on both a national and global scale.
Secretary Wright’s visit was part of a four-day mission to Saudi Arabia focused on exploring new avenues for deepening U.S.-Saudi cooperation across various segments of the energy sector.
