On the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, two aircrafts collided; one belonging to Cathay Pacific and the other to South Korean Airlines.
The incident was reported by Reuters, citing an official from the Korean airline. The collision happened at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, as the South Korean aircraft was preparing for take off.
Details of Collision
According to the New York Post, the collision took place around 5:30 PM local time. Subsequently, the ground service vehicle was pushing the South Korean aircraft back towards the runway for departure when its left wing struck the right side of Cathay Pacific’s tail.
Moreover, Japanese media broadcast footage showing the extent of the damage, highlighting the visible damage to the Korean aircraft’s left wing and the tail of the Cathay Pacific plane.
No Reported Injuries
Japan’s NTV channel confirmed that no injuries were reported in the collision. This is reassuring, considering the potential severity of such accidents. The quick response and safety measures in place likely contributed to the absence of injuries.
Second Recent Aircraft Collision in Japan
Remarkably, this incident marks the second aircraft collision in Japan in a short period. Previously, a passenger aircraft collided with a Japanese Coast Guard plane at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
Tragically, this earlier incident resulted in the loss of five crew members from the Coast Guard aircraft, as reported by the Japanese Ministry of Transport.
