The Syrian government has carried out the first prisoner exchange with Druze factions in the southern city of Sweida on Thursday under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross, according to Reuters.
Damascus freed 61 prisons from Druze factions detained in Adra Central Prison near the capital.
In return, the Druze National Guard Forces released 25 Syrian government personnel.
This marks the first such swap since the violent sectarian clashes that erupted in Sweida last July between Druze fighters and Sunni Bedouin tribes.
The violence escalated further after Damascus deployed government forces to quell the fighting in the majority-Druze province.
At this moment, Israel moved to back the Druze community and launched several strikes against the Syrian government led by President Ahmed Al-Sharaa.
The fighting left hundreds dead before a comprehensive ceasefire was announced later that month to halt the bloodshed.
In June, Syrian government also exchanged over 400 prisoners with the Kurdish-led authority in northern Aleppo.
