Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara to discuss bilateral ties and the situation in Sudan.
Erdogan vowed to increase support for Sudan‘s sovereignty, increase humanitarian aid, and help end the conflict and restore normalcy to the African country.
Turkish Commitment
Idris met with Erdogan on Wednesday at the Presidential Complex in Ankara as part of a working visit to Türkiye, the Turkish Directorate of Communications said in a statement.
During their meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and the recent regional and international developments. The Turkish President said the meeting aimed to further strengthen relations between the two countries through ongoing and future efforts.

In light of this, Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan, noting that Ankara will continue efforts to end the conflict and restore normalcy.
He also voiced support for diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire and initiating a comprehensive political process, adding that Turkish humanitarian aid will increase to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The war in Sudan broke out in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), triggering what the UN called “the world’s largest humanitarian and displacement crisis.”
So far, the conflict has killed at least 59,000 people and left around 11,000 people missing. It has also displaced 14 million people in Sudan and neighboring countries.
Economic Cooperation
The Turkish President welcomed the resumption of the joint Turkish-Sudanese Economic Committee, reported Sudan News Agency (SUNA). In this regard, he signaled Türkiye’s willingness to share expertise in the fields of clean energy, infrastructure, agriculture and joint projects.
The Sudanese Prime Minister, for his part, expressed gratitude for Türkiye‘s continued support and constructive role in advancing regional peace and cooperation, calling Ankara a “strategic partner” for Khartoum.
“We discussed strengthening the longstanding relations between our two brotherly countries, expanding economic cooperation and supporting Sudan’s efforts toward stability, reconstruction, and sustainable development,” Idris said in a statement on X.
Furthermore, he invited the private sectors of both Türkiye and Sudan to launch direct partnerships in local investment and reconstruction projects. He also stressed that the bilateral economic committee must continue its work, calling for the strict implementation of its agreements to benefit both nations.

The meeting saw the attendance of senior Turkish officials, including Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Agriculture Minister İbrahim Yumaklı, and Communications Director Burhanettin Duran.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese delegation included the ministers of finance, agriculture, energy and minerals, as well as members of the Prime Minister’s office.
Supporting Reconstruction Efforts
Idris held a meeting with Turkish Vice President Yılmaz, with the participation of the Agriculture Ministers of both countries, SUNA reported.
The meeting focused on deepening economic and investment ties, as well as supporting Sudan’s reconstruction efforts and bolstering the strategic partnership between the two countries. Following the bilateral summit, the Prime Minister and the Turkish Vice President participated in joint ministerial talks.
During these discussions, the Turkish side reaffirmed Türkiye’s firm and unwavering stance in support of Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as its backing of legitimate Sudanese state institutions.
They also discussed economic and investment cooperation, particularly in agriculture, energy, mining, infrastructure, ports, transport, and logistics, emphasizing the need to transition from the memorandum stage to practical implementation.
Strategic Projects and Implementation
The discussions touched upon several major strategic ventures, including the “Zadi 1” project, as well as the Al-Gezira, Al-Rahad, and Al-Hawad agricultural projects. Cooperation in oil, mining, electricity, renewable energy, and gum arabic was also addressed, alongside the “One Million Productive Homes for Youth” housing project.
