SPPC Signs Power Purchase Agreement for QIPP Expansion

The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the expansion of the Qurayyah Independent Power Plant (QIPP). The project will add combined cycle power plant units with a total capacity of 3,010 MW, with provisions for future carbon capture units. Overseen by the Ministry of Energy, this initiative aims to enhance electricity production capacity and improve operational efficiency in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia Signs Power Purchase Agreements for 1.7 GW Solar Projects

The PPA was signed with a consortium led by ACWA Power (managing member), along with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co. Ltd. The QIPP expansion represents a total investment of approximately SAR 13.35 billion.

This project aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by enhancing electricity generation efficiency, reducing costs, and diversifying energy sources to achieve an optimal energy mix. It also supports the Kingdom’s goal of reducing reliance on liquid fuels in the power sector.
