Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs Chairs 14th Executive Council Meeting ahead of Endowments Conf.
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh has chaired the 14th Executive Council meeting of the Conference of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in the Islamic World, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Themed “The Role of Ministries of Islamic Affairs and Endowments in Promoting the Principles of Moderation and Consolidating the Values of Moderation,” the conference will mark the participation of ministers, muftis and heads of Islamic councils and associations from more than 60 countries.
The Council’s Member States
The Executive Council of the Conference includes 8 countries:
- Saudi Arabia
- Jordan
- Indonesia
- Pakistan
- Gambia
- Kuwait
- Egypt
- Morocco
The Meeting’s Agenda
The meeting tackled the following topics:
- Reviewing the Council’s working mechanism
- Listening to many visions regarding the proposed topic for the upcoming conference
- Discussing the General Secretariat’s proposal regarding the conference
- Delving into a number of proposals submitted by the Council’s member states to develop its mechanisms and visions
Morocco to Host the 15th Session
Furthermore, Al-Sheikh listened to the invitation of the Moroccan Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Tawfiq, to host the 15th session of the conference.
Therefore, the council accepted the Moroccan invitation and stated that the date will be determined in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Conference.
The Conference’s Agenda
Within 10 sessions, the conference will tackle the following topics:
- Discussing the significance of renewing the religious discourse in promoting the principles of moderation
- Confronting the developments of extremism, fanaticism and terrorism
- Protecting religious platforms from hate speech and extremism
- Spreading the values of tolerance and coexistence
- Stressing the role of endowments in increasing the gross domestic product
- Sharing the ministries’ experiences in the technical and architectural specifications for building and maintaining mosques
- Reviewing the skills and programs provided to imams, preachers, muezzins, and preachers
- Discussing the danger of issuing fatwas without knowledge or specialization and the impact of their deviation from the approach of moderation and balance
- Boosting citizenship and moderns means of communication in the Islamic world.
