Saudi Mega Projects in 2022: Steps towards non-oil projects

At a time when the world is facing challenges and economic conditions that have resulted in a contraction of the gross domestic product in many countries and a slowing of economic growth, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister, is taking confident and steady steps toward achieving the “Kingdom’s Vision 2030” and continuing to support the economy with various resources.

Non-oil new projects can provide job opportunities for the country’s youth. Here are some projects that have been established this year in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: –

Banjos

A floating city in the form of a giant sea turtle, 550 meters long and 610 meters wide.

Banjos will include resorts, apartments, beach clubs, several villas, as well as a huge rooftop garden and a shopping mall. The bottom space design includes 30,000 cells, which prevent it from sinking.

AMAALA Project

The AMAALA project was launched in 2018 by the Saudi Public Investment Fund to be the first coastal destination for luxury and absolute tourism in the region.

The AMAALA project is located in the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Nature Reserve, which is located between NEOM’s project and the upcoming Red Sea project. The area of the Amaala project is estimated at 3,800 square kilometers of residential areas, recreation areas, entertainment areas, and means of transportation.

Diriyah Gate

It is the largest heritage and cultural project in the world. It aims to make Diriyah one of the most significant tourist, cultural, educational, and entertainment destinations in the region and the world. It is supervised by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, and its cost is SAR 75 billion.

The project includes residential complexes that can accommodate up to 100,000 people, and aims to attract 25 million visitors annually. It includes many museums, hotels, shops, and restaurants that make it a global destination for culture, relaxation, shopping, and hospitality.

The first phase of the project ended with the opening of the Al-Bujairi overlook. Nine museums are also being built, and infrastructure, roads, public utilities, and metro stations are being developed. Development work is expected to continue until 2030.

Six Flags Qiddiya 

Six Flags is one of the most significant development projects in Saudi Arabia. It includes 252,000 square meters of recreational water park space, more than 28 rides as well as 6 themed areas. It is planned that construction will be completed by 2023 costing SAR 2.8 billion.

King Salman Park

King Salman Park is one of the largest construction projects in Saudi Arabia and extends over 16 kilometers. The park plans to celebrate arts, culture, entertainment, sports, and more amid stunning nature. The King Salman Park project includes some side projects and a residential area with more than 15,000 units. In addition, there are 6 museums and more than 20 sports centers.

Mall of Saudi Arabia

The Mall of Saudi Arabia extends over more than 296, 00 square meters in Riyadh. It will include more than 600 stores, 10,000 parking spaces, and 40,000 square meters for an ice-skating rink. There is an ice park, in addition to an area of ​​33,200 square meters for restaurants and cafes. There are more than 275 rooms in 5-star hotels, making it one of the most significant developments in Saudi Arabia.

The NEOM project 

NEOM is one of Saudi Arabia’s most anticipated development projects, with innovative and different plans that are projected to cost $ 500 billion.

The project aims to build a smart city to pull the Kingdom’s economy away from reliance on oil. The NEOM project is located on the Red Sea and houses several projects such as The Line, and Trojena.

Boulevard Sports Track

Boulevard Sports Track, one of the most prominent development projects in Saudi Arabia, extends over 135 kilometers and features more than 50 sports venues. For those who want to lead a healthier lifestyle, the island can be an ideal destination for pedestrians, cyclists, and horseback riders.

 The Boulevard Sports Track includes 8 main areas. These are the Wadi Hanifa area, the art area, the Lesson Valley area, the recreational area, the sports arena, the environmental area, and the Rimal Sports Park.

The Trojena project is among the NEOM projects to be the first-ever ski resort in the GCC countries, with plans to open by 2026. An artificial lake is also being established there to be a global tourism center that invites tourists from all over the world throughout the year.

The city will host the Asian Games in 2029.

Red Sea Project

The Red Sea Project is one of the most significant development projects in Saudi Arabia. It extends over an area of 28,000 square kilometers and includes more than 50 hotels and 8 thousand hotel units. The project also includes 1,000 residential properties in addition to an international airport.

The World’s First Oil Rig Theme Park! 

It is an international tourist hub. It is a sign that the Kingdom is eager to move away from its image of a petroleum-reliant economy. The kingdom looks at petroleum rigs for inspiration to develop a floating theme park.

Located in the Arabian Gulf, 40 km from land, ‘The Rig’ will comprise a range of extreme sports, three hotels with 800 rooms, and 11 restaurants. The expanse of ‘The Rig’ is blatantly visible, spanning an area of 150,000 square meters, executing a multitude of hospitality offerings, adventures, and aquatic sporting experiences.
