The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has introduced a new shipping service to Jeddah Islamic Port to enhance maritime connectivity and support supply chain resilience.
According to a press release by Mawani, the new shipping service (RS1) by Greta Shipping will connect Jeddah Islamic Port with Port of Salalah and Port of Djibouti, with a handling capacity of up to 1,730 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).
The new shipping service underscores Mawani’s commitment to boosting the competitiveness of Saudi ports, enhancing the Kingdom’s status in global performance rankings, and supporting international trade movement, in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub.
The move also aligns with the Kingdom’s efforts to strengthen Red Sea connectivity in the face of shipping disruptions sparked by the US-Israeli war with Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
On May 19, 2026, Mawani launched the “Red Sea Express” service, in collaboration with Folk Maritime and SABIC, to connect Jeddah Islamic Port, King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu, Ain Sokhna Port in Egypt, and Aqaba Port in Jordan, with a capacity of up to 1,100 TEUs.
In response to the current Hormuz crisis, Mawani has launched 20 new shipping services in collaboration with major international shipping lines to maintain uninterrupted trade flows and expand connectivity with global markets through high efficiency and operational readiness.
