SGBF Expands Global Role at 29th UN Commission on Science, Tech

The Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF) has reinforced its global role in science, technology, and innovation by confirming its participation in the 29th session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD). The Commission’s secretariat has been hosted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development since 1993, following the approval of SGBF’s advisory engagement in the Commission’s work.

The 29th CSTD session will take place from April 20 to 24, 2026, at the Assembly Hall of the Palais des Nations in Geneva, bringing together representatives from member states, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector.

During the session, SGBF will present a working paper outlining data-driven pathways to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, the paper highlights the Forum’s efforts to support a sustainable construction sector and promote development anchored in scientific evidence and innovation.

SGBF Secretary-General Eng. Faisal Alfadl emphasized that this participation comes at a critical time, as the world experiences rapid expansion in artificial intelligence applications. He also stressed that the true value of data today lies not in its quantity, but in its accuracy and credibility.

“Through the saaf® system, we transform data into measurable actions that improve resource efficiency, strengthen sustainability across the built environment, and enhance quality of life,” he stated.

Alfadl further explained that the saaf® evaluation and compliance system is built on an advanced methodology centered on the principle of “sufficiency first.” This technical foundation ensures the delivery of authentic and verifiable carbon neutrality. By prioritizing demand reduction, the approach avoids premature ‘low-carbon’ claims that fail to address structural consumption patterns at their core.
