Saudi FM to Make Historic Visit to Lebanon

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, announced a groundbreaking visit to Lebanon this week.

He made the announcement during the World Economic Forum in Davos. This trip marks the first high-level Saudi diplomatic visit to Lebanon in over a decade.

The one-day visit will occur on Thursday. It will be the first by a senior Saudi official since 2015.

Prince Faisal expressed optimism about Lebanon’s recent election of a president. He called it a positive step forward.

Saudi Arabia Calls for Real Reforms in Lebanon

Prince Faisal emphasized the need for Lebanon to implement real reforms and adopt a forward-looking approach to ensure sustainable progress.

He stressed that the future of Lebanon lies in the hands of its people, urging them to make decisions that steer the country toward stability and growth.

“We need to see real action, real reform, and a commitment to a Lebanon that looks to the future, not the past,” Prince Faisal stated. “Saudi Arabia’s approach to Lebanon would depend on tangible progress and constructive dialogue.”

Cautious Optimism for Syria’s Future

Prince Faisal also shared his cautious optimism about Syria’s future, citing positive signs from the new administration in Damascus and the resilience of the Syrian people. He called for regional and international collaboration to rebuild Syria’s broken institutions and support its recovery.

“The new administration in Syria is saying and doing the right things, but they have inherited a broken country,” he said. Prince Faisal highlighted the importance of lifting sanctions and providing waivers to aid Syria’s reconstruction efforts.

Saudi Backs Regional Stability

The Saudi Foreign Minister expressed confidence in the Gulf region’s ability to overcome challenges and achieve economic growth. He praised the resilience of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in maintaining their economic agendas despite regional risks.

Prince Faisal also addressed tensions between Iran and Israel, emphasizing the need to avoid conflict. He welcomed the new US administration’s approach under President Donald Trump, noting its potential to contribute to regional stability.

“President Trump has been clear about avoiding conflict, and we hope Iran will engage constructively to maintain positive momentum,” he concluded.

Prince Faisal’s visit to Lebanon and his remarks at Davos underscore Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fostering regional stability and supporting nations in crisis. His optimism reflects a broader hope for progress in the Middle East, driven by collaboration and reform.
