Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held discussions with China’s Special Envoy to the Middle East, Zhai Jun, at the ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh on Sunday, according to the Saudi Gazette.
The two officials discussed the latest regional and global developments and their implications for the Middle East, as well as the initiatives aimed at boosting regional stability and security.
The meeting saw the attendance of Ambassador Saud Al-Sati, the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Political Affairs.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning announced last Thursday that Zhai Jun, China’s Special Envoy on Middle East affairs, will soon travel to the region to help de-escalate rising tensions sparked on February 28 by the official US-Israel strikes against Tehran.
Iran responded with a wave of counterattacks in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.
China has urged all parties involved in the current Middle East conflict to ensure safety and stability in the Strait of Hormuz that halted its operations due to the war.
During today’s meeting, the spokesperson added that China will continue engaging with all parties, including those involved in Middle East conflicts, to maintain dialogue and expand mediation efforts to swiftly resolve the current crisis.
