Top Chinese Officials Meet with OIC Secretary General

China’s Vice President and Foreign Minister met on Monday with the Secretary-General of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation, according to Reuters.

The Beijing talks came at a crucial moment as tensions are mounting in the Middle East, after an Iranian official warned that any attack would be treated “as an all-out war against us.”

On Friday, a senior Iranian official warned that Tehran would regard any attack “as an all-out war against us,” as a US aircraft carrier strike group and other military assets are heading to the Middle East in the coming days.

“This military buildup—we hope it is not meant for real confrontation—but our forces are ready for the worst-case scenario. That is why everything in Iran is on high alert,” a senior Iranian official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump warned that an “armada” of American forces was heading toward Iran.

However, he said he hoped it would not be used, as he reiterated threats against Iran over the violent crackdown against protesters and any revival of its nuclear program.

“This time we will treat any attack – limited, unlimited, surgical, kinetic, whatever they call it – as an all-out war against us, and we will respond in the hardest way possible to settle this,” the official said.

During Monday’s talks, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the establishment of a regional security partnership and pressed for political settlement to hot-spot issues.
