Saudi Electricity Secures Monumental Int’nal Financing

The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC),  recently secured a significant international financing agreement amounting to $3 billion.

This financial boost is aimed at facilitating the company’s expansion and investment projects, echoing a positive outlook for the country’s energy sector.

Agreement Overview

The SEC announced its successful negotiation of a USD-denominated $3 billion International Syndicated Facility with a consortium of 15 leading regional and international lenders​.

The deal, unveiled in a recent statement, is targeted at bolstering the company’s capital investments and expansion blueprints​​.

Project Financing

This syndicated loan is earmarked for financing the company’s investment projects for the remainder of the current year and part of 2024 as confirmed by the CFO, Abdulaziz AlMuhaiza​​.

This financial influx will be a game-changer in realizing the long-term growth objectives of the company.

Additional Funding

In addition to the $3 billion, SEC also procured a $567.5 million Export Credit Agency (ECA) facility, taking the total funding to over $3.56 billion.

This additional funding is aimed at supporting the Saudi Arabia-Egypt electricity interconnection project, showcasing a broader regional electricity interconnectivity vision​​.

Refinancing Existing Facilities

The five-year tenure of the unsecured facility will also cater to refinancing existing obligations, thereby enhancing the financial stability and operational flexibility of the Saudi Electricity Company​​.
