On behalf of the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister, Waleed Al-Khuraiji, on Monday took part in the preparatory ministerial meeting for the upcoming extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo, Egypt.
The meeting discussed the preparations for the emergency Arab Summit regarding the recent developments in the Palestinian issue, particularly the situation in Gaza, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Leaders of the Arab nations are convening in Cairo on Tuesday in an emergency summit to formulate a unified Arab position and propose a reconstruction plan that rebuilds Gaza without forcing its people out of their territories.
The Arab Summit in Cairo comes on the heels of a consultative meeting between the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Egypt and Jordan in Riyadh. During the meeting, they discussed joint efforts to support the Palestinian cause and address developments in the Gaza Strip.
In February, Egypt called for the emergency Arab summit after the increasing calls from American and Israeli officials to displace the Palestinian people from Gaza and resettle them elsewhere. The US President, Donald Trump, has repeatedly called for relocating Palestinians in Egypt and Jordan, suggesting that the US will take over the Gaza Strip and transform it into a “Riviera of the Middle East.”
In response, the Arab countries have categorically rejected these calls, stressing their support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
