Saudi Communications Min., Ericsson CEO Eye Expanded Tech Partnerships

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha and Ericsson CEO Börje Ekholm have discussed scaling tech partnerships and investments in the Kingdom.

During a meeting in Riyadh, Alswaha and Ekholm explored opportunities to expand Ericsson’s investments in Saudi Arabia and deepen collaboration across various areas, such as digital infrastructure, advanced 5G networks, cloud networks, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, as well as innovation in emerging technologies.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed expanding cooperation to support enhancing networks and digital capabilities, leveraging the established partnerships with Ericsson, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Importantly, both sides underscored the Kingdom’s significance as an attractive market for high-value investments in the telecommunications, technology, and AI sectors.

This is driven by an enabling environment for growth, an effective partnership system, and rapid national projects that contribute to expanding innovation and development.

These factors have further enhanced Ericsson’s footprint in the Kingdom through its regional headquarters in Riyadh, its partnerships with government agencies and telecom operators, and its advanced solutions in key industries.

In light of this, Ericsson’s Ekholm emphasized the importance of the company’s partnership with Saudi Arabia. “As Ericsson marks 150 years of shaping global communications, our half-century partnership with Saudi Arabia stands as one of our most defining chapters,” he said.

“From working on the Kingdom’s earliest telecom networks to enabling its leadership in 5G today, Ericsson’s journey in Saudi Arabia reflects decades of shared progress.

“Saudi Arabia continues to offer a highly attractive investment environment, driven by a clear long-term vision, strong digital ambition, and a growing innovation ecosystem,” he added.
