Saudi-British FMs Discuss Military Escalation in Gaza
Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, received a phone call on Tuesday from his British counterpart, James Cleverly. During the call, they discussed the severity of the ongoing military escalation in and around Gaza.
The two sides emphasized the necessity to find ways to defuse tension and halt the escalating conflict in the region. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the ministers also deliberated on the importance of the international community working together to find a fair and equitable solution that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people and mitigates the consequences of this crisis in a way that helps protect civilians and preserve international peace and security.
Saudi Arabia has recently called for an urgent ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the escalating situation in Gaza. The OIC, a multinational organization consisting of 57 member states, has condemned the Israeli military’s aggression against Gaza and held Israel responsible for disregarding international resolutions.
Saudi Arabia’s Response: Urgent Ministerial Meeting
In light of the escalating situation, Saudi Arabia has taken the initiative to convene an urgent ministerial meeting of the OIC. The meeting aims to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and discuss strategies to halt the violence and restore peace in the region. The Kingdom, along with other OIC member states, seeks to intensify international and regional efforts to deescalate the situation and prevent further expansion of the conflict.
Moreover, the OIC holds Israel accountable for its actions, which violate international resolutions and disregard the rights of the Palestinian people. By calling for the urgent ministerial meeting, Saudi Arabia aims to mobilize the OIC’s collective response to address the immediate needs of the affected population and explore long-term solutions to the conflict.
Furthermore, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been actively engaging with regional leaders to discuss the escalating situation in Gaza. In phone calls with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, they emphasized the need for intensified international and regional efforts to stop the violence in Gaza and prevent its further spread. The Crown Prince reiterated Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.
Saudi Arabia aims to achieve an immediate ceasefire, alleviate the humanitarian suffering, and promote lasting peace in Gaza. The OIC’s collective response, along with the support of other nations, will be crucial in bringing an end to the violence and ensuring the well-being of the affected population.
