Saudi Arabia’s Business Registrations Surge to 1.89M in Q1 2026

Saudi Arabia’s commercial landscape is witnessing an unprecedented expansion as the total number of active registrations hit 1.89 million. During the first quarter of 2026, the Ministry of Commerce issued 71,000 new enrollments, signaling a robust start to the year. This steady growth reflects the Kingdom’s successful efforts to diversify its economy and foster a world-class environment for global investors.

Women Lead the New Entrepreneurial Wave

The Ministry’s quarterly report revealed a significant shift in the demographic of the Kingdom’s rapidly evolving and modernizing private sector. Remarkably, women accounted for 47% of all newly issued commercial registrations during the first three months of this current calendar year. Regional activity remained concentrated in key hubs, with Riyadh, Makkah, and the Eastern Province leading the nation in business formation. This momentum builds on a strong 2025, where quarterly volumes reached 154,638 in Q1 and 123,000 by the fourth quarter.

AI Drives Economic Diversification

Furthermore, the data highlights a massive pivot toward technology, as the government officially designates 2026 the “Year of Artificial Intelligence.” Registrations in the AI sector skyrocketed by 240% over five years, reaching a total of 19,638 by the end of 2025. This strategic focus aims to reinforce advanced technologies as the primary driver of the nation’s future sustainable economic growth.

“Artificial intelligence is considered one of the most prominent drivers of the global economy,” the official Ministry of Commerce report stated.

The report further explained the global significance of this tech shift. “Advanced countries rely on it to strengthen their economies, develop their societies, improve quality of life, and enhance the efficiency of vital sectors such as health care, education, transport, energy, and security, as well as to accelerate innovation and boost competitiveness,” it said.

Rapid Expansion in E-commerce and Tourism

In addition to technology, the Kingdom saw a 138% increase in active enrollments for limited liability companies over five years. E-commerce registrations also rose by 9% year-on-year to reach 45,669, reflecting the ongoing strength of the nation’s digital economy. Meanwhile, the tourism sector flourished as registrations for organizing travel trips grew by 32% to reach 11,531 during this period.

Consequently, the Ministry continues to expand its infrastructure, now providing over 6,000 services through 62 different government entities across the country. The recent opening of the 20th Business Center branch in Makkah underscores the commitment to supporting the local private sector. Finally, core industries like construction and retail still dominate the market, accounting for 53% of all new commercial registrations issued.
