Saudi Arabia has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the US and the Houthis in Yemen, announced by Oman, to halt attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said that the Kingdom welcomed the statement issued by Oman regarding a ceasefire agreement in Yemen to protect international shipping and trade.
On this occasion, Saudi Arabia reiterated its support for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis that ensures the security and stability of Yemen and the entire region.
On Tuesday, the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, announced that the recent discussions and contacts by Oman with the US and the relevant authorities in Sana’a for de-escalation resulted in a ceasefire agreement between both sides.
“In the future, neither side will target the other, including American vessels, in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, ensuring freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of international commercial shipping,” Albusaidi posted on X.
The Omani announcement followed remarks by the US President, Donald Trump, that the US would halt attacks on the Houthis after the group agreed to stop targeting ships in the Red Sea.
In March 2025, Trump launched a military campaign against the Iranian-backed group in response to their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.
During a meeting on Tuesday with the Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, Trump said that the Houthis told the US that “they don’t want to fight anymore,” according to CNN.
“We will honor that, and we will stop the bombings,” he said. “They have capitulated, but more importantly, we will take their word … they say they will not be blowing up ships anymore,” the US President added.
