Saudi Arabia has sent new aid convoys to northern Gaza, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
This aid package is part of a campaign dedicated to providing essential relief to the Palestinian people in Gaza. On Monday, the convoys delivered shelter kits to help residents returning to their homes in northern Gaza. These kits include various necessary supplies, such as blankets, mattresses, cooking utensils, and water containers.
The Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage, the executive partner of the KSrelief in Gaza, will begin distributing these aid packages without delay.
On Sunday, January 19, 2025, a three-phase ceasefire agreement took effect between Hamas and Israel to end the 15-month conflict in the Gaza Strip. During the first phase of the agreement, lasting for 6 weeks, Hamas will gradually release 33 hostages including female civilians and soldiers, children and civilians over 50.
In return, Israel will release 30 Palestinian prisoners for each civilian hostage and 50 for each female soldier. Israeli forces will move out of the populated areas and displaced Palestinians will begin returning to their homes.
Moreover, the ceasefire agreement allows 600 aid trucks to enter Gaza every day of the ceasefire, 50 of them loaded with fuel. 300 of the aid trucks will head to northern Gaza, as civilians there suffer dire humanitarian conditions.
The Saudi assistance aims to help beneficiaries secure their essential needs as they return to their destroyed or damaged homes. It also aligns with Saudi Arabia‘s humanitarian and relief programs designed to support the Palestinian people during the ongoing crises.
Over the course of 2024, Saudi Arabia provided a total financial aid of $40mn to Palestine, as part of the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people.
