Saudi Arabia, Morocco Deepen Ties with New Tax Agreement

Saudi Arabia and Morocco have signed an agreement to boost collaboration in tax administration. This new initiative reflects a growing partnership between the two nations, aimed at enhancing administrative cooperation.

Strengthening Tax Administration

During the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Conference in Riyadh, officials from Saudi Arabia and Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve tax administration. Eng. Abdullah Al-Fantoukh, Deputy Governor of Saudi Arabia’s Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority, and Mohamed Sebai, Director of Resources and Auditing at Morocco’s General Directorate of Taxes, endorsed the agreement.

The MoU aims to enhance knowledge sharing and transfer expertise between the two countries. This initiative focuses on utilizing both parties’ capabilities to strengthen tax systems and foster bilateral relations.

Expanding Judicial Cooperation

Last month, Riyadh and Rabat signed three key agreements to enhance cooperation in criminal justice. Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef Al Saud and Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi led the signing.

These agreements cover mutual legal assistance, the transfer of sentenced persons, and extradition procedures. Both nations aim to streamline investigations, prosecutions, and trials to combat cross-border crime effectively.

Facilitating Prisoner Transfers

One significant provision allows the transfer of detainees between Saudi Arabia and Morocco, enabling prisoners to serve sentences in their home countries. This humanitarian measure seeks to keep inmates connected with their families, aiding in their reintegration post-release.

By strengthening communication and aligning legal frameworks, both nations reaffirm their commitment to addressing security challenges and promoting mutual interests.
