Saudi Arabia, France Lead UN Briefing on Palestine Peace Conference

Saudi Arabia and France jointly briefed UN members on plans for a high-level peace conference set for June 2025. Permanent Ambassadors Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel and Jerome Bonnafont co-chaired the session at UN headquarters, outlining preparations for the Saudi-French co-hosted summit.

Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Two-State Commitment

Ambassador Al-Wasel stressed Saudi Arabia’s firm support for a two-state solution. He declared Palestinian statehood vital for Middle East stability and global peace. Moreover, he announced new working groups to address critical peace process challenges. Al-Wasel invited UN states to submit proposals, ensuring inclusive dialogue ahead of the summit.

The UN-backed conference will provide an inclusive platform, aiming to advance international efforts for a just and lasting solution.

Most participating UN member and observer states, including regional blocs and international organizations, expressed strong support for the Saudi-French initiative. They reaffirmed their commitment to the two-state solution, the only internationally agreed path forward.

Calls for Concrete Results

Delegations called for tangible outcomes from the conference, such as recognizing the State of Palestine and rejecting annexation and forced displacement. Additionally, they urged increased support for the Palestinian government and UNRWA.

Participating states praised Saudi Arabia’s leadership in supporting the Palestinian cause and chairing the conference. They also commended its efforts to maintain political momentum and encourage collective action toward a meaningful outcome.
