The Saudi Telecom Company (STC) revealed the expansion of the coverage of the fifth-generation network (5G) in the holy city of Makkah and the holy sites for this year by 48% compared to last year, to provide high-speed communication technologies in the Holy Mosque and the Civil Mosque in addition to the holy sites and enable digital services for various beneficiaries.
The volume of data traffic in the company’s network increased by 40% due to the expansion of the fifth-generation network, while the number of international voice channels increased by 33%, distributed over 8 international exchanges.
The company raised its operational plan for the 5G network, and the rate of availability of networks with the latest technology in the fifth and fourth generation, and this year’s pilgrimage witnessed the activation of STC’s strategic partnership with the Royal Commission for Makkah and Mashaer and Kadana Company.
The transfer and distribution of more than 60,000 umbrellas bearing the company’s logo to the camps of the pilgrims inside and the Arafat area, in cooperation with the STC Group’s Qanawat Company, and with coordination and follow-up from the Makkah Al-Mukarramah management team at STC, to ensure that each pilgrim receives his umbrella.
The Makkah region administration has secured the necessary approvals to provide self-service devices for STC 5G services in the pilgrims housing complex in Mina, in coordination with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the companies of pilgrims inside, with thanks to the sister company Qanawat for providing the devices.
Concerning internal coverage solutions, sites and internal coverage solutions have been allocated in the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque that have been updated to the 5G technology, in parallel with the company’s goal to create an innovative Hajj experience for pilgrims during the 1442 season, which witnessed the launch of digital services provided for the first time in cooperation with the government and private agencies.
